Territorial planning and sustainable urbandevelopment: analysis of measures to mitigate thewater emergency and the heat island phenomenon inthe province of San Juan

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the causes of an alarming temperature increase in the cities of the province of San Juan, Argentina. This phenomenon, a result of the transformations brought about by climate change, the water crisis, and the "heat island" effect, has precipitated the movement of residents to nearby peri-urban and rural areas in recent years. In this context, it is necessary to investigate the measures or proposed actions that can be taken to improve the water emergency situation and the temperature increase in the province. Thus, the work can be defined as basic, descriptive and explanatory research (depending on the purpose and objectives pursued) and documentary (depending on the type of sources to be worked on). While the methodology used will have a mixed approach where qualitative and quantitative elements are combined for a better understanding of the phenomenon. Finally, the work will be divided into three parts, where at the beginning the geographical and historical context of the province of San Juan is examined. Then the current situation surrounding the problem of water and high temperatures in the city is analyzed. Finally, possible measures and solutions that contribute to the mitigation of this problem are established.
