Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify the risk levels present in Presidente Sarmiento
Provincial Park and its immediate surroundings, in order to contribute to better management for disaster reduction. A descriptive research method was used, based on multitemporal analysis of satellite images, field observations, consultation of bibliographic and regulatory sources, and interviews with local stakeholders. The reference population included residents of the Basilio Nievas and Tacú villages, as well as educational, recreational, and security institutions located in the area.

The instruments used were satellite images (Landsat 5 and 8), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), zoning maps, burned area indices (BRI), and databases on seismic events, fires, and flooding phenomena. The results showed that the main hazards in the area are seismic activity and liquefaction, flooding, and forest fires, in addition to unplanned urban expansion on vulnerable lands. High-risk zones were established in the west of the park, medium-risk zones in the north and south, and low-risk zones in peripheral areas. Finally, integrated risk management actions were proposed, involving the government, educational institutions, sports clubs, and the local community.
