Abstract

This article presnts the findings of a study on the increasing difficulty faced by secondary school teachers in the Capital City of San Juan in establishing boundaries to their working hours due to constant institutional communication through digital messaging tools. The study addresses this phenomenon through the conceptual framework of the “time pressure situation”(Wajcman, 2017) and the attention economy (Smith, 2023) , which explain how the design of digital platforms accelerates the pace of life. A descriptive and quantitative methodology was employed, using surveys to school administrators and teacherds. The results confirm a high dependence on applications not specifically designed for educational management, which perpetueates work overload. It is argued that the lack of disconnection is not a flaw inherent to connectivity itself, but rather a consequence of software developed under a logic of relentless productivity. The article concludes by emphasizing the urgent need to integrate training in digital well-being and to implement public policies regulating the use of these communication channels outside working hours, in order to guarantee the fundamental right to disconnect.
